NGC 884 & NGC 869 Double Cluster (Caldwell 14) in Perseus
Double Cluster In Perseus
As open clusters go, it is hard to match NGC 884 and NGC 869. Patrick Moore listed it as his
14th object of interests in the heavens (Caldwell 14). Through binoculars or a rich-field telescope
the twin clusters are stunning. Away from the city the clusters are visible with just the eye as a dim
cloud located in the Scimitar (sword) in Perseus' raised hand in the process of cutting off the head
of Medusa.
