NGC 157 -- Spiral Galaxy in Cetus
NGC 157 - A Spiral Galaxy in the Whale
This condensed galaxy was not difficult to see from my suburban backyard with the 155mm
refractor. It rested between two 9th magnitude stars which makes its location easy to
hone-in-on when searching for it. Small and unexpectedly bright.
I was tempted to think that I was catching internal structure but was never fully convinced. The
core was brighter than the subtly mottled disk, but the spiral arms themselves could not be
teased out.
