NGC 659 -- Open Cluster in Cassiopea
Hidden Treasure 7
In O'Meara's book "Hidden Treasures" he lists NGC 659 as his seventh object
and states "NGC 659 looks like a pale violet among roses, shining through mist
and moonlight".  Although, my imagination is not up to O'Meara's, I do find the
open cluster a joy to observe. This pretty cluster is often skipped over for the
much larger nearby Open Clusters of NGC 663 and M103, but with a bit of
magnification NGC 659 comes a worthy target in it's own right.  See the drawing
of NGC 663 to see how NGC 659 relates in size.
