HD 58782 -- Double Star in Canis Minor
Double Star in the Little Dog – HD 58782
One of the two pretty double-stars in Canis Minor is between Gomeisa (Beta Canis
Minoris) and Gamma Canis Minoris. Gamma Canis Minoris is the bright
yellow-orange-star in the drawing at the 2:00 o’clock position while Gomeisa is
outside of the drawing at around the 9:00 o’clock position.
Although the pair HD 58782 are not bright they are easy to locate since they are in
between the 2nd and 3rd brightest stars in the constellation. The pair have a
separation of 10 arcseconds – wide enough that they appear split even at low
power. The color of the dimmer star of HD 58782 is a distinct blue while the
primary appears a clean-white to my eyes.
