M41 (NGC 2287) -- Open Cluster in Canis Major
This pretty open cluster is just south of Sirus. Although, it is low in the sky from my
Maryland site, its large size (nearly equal to the full moon) and large number of stars
makes this a worth while target in a small telescope or binoculars. The haze behind
the cluster in the drawing represents unresolved stars the were constantly winking
in-and-out of my vision. Also, note the pair of red giant stars at the center of the
cluster.
