M 56 (NGC 6779) Globular Cluster in Lyra
M56 From Suburban Skies
I get deprived of clean clear skies during the summer months where I live. This morning was
not the best night even for my suburban location. Still it had been a while since I had been out
under the stars. I star hopped from Albireo using a low power eyepiece in order to find M56
under a milky sky (my visual magnitude was only about 3.5 at best). M56 is a globular cluster
that my 6-inch scope just starts to resolve on a good night -- but not this morning. Only a warm
ball of unresolved stars could be seen. Still it was worth it -- it always is.
