NGC 6738 -- Open Cluster Asterism in Aquila
NGC 6738 -- The Open Cluster that Wasn’t
Although NGC 6738 is listed in most Star Atlases, both old and new, as an Open Cluster,
it has been known since 1993, that it is just a chance arrangement of stars that give the
appearance of a star cluster.  The best one can call it is an Open Cluster Asterism for
telescopes.  Still it is a pleasant sight and one worth visiting if you are in the area.
