Stephanson 1 -- Open Cluster in Lyra
Stephenson 1 is a pretty Open Cluster in Lyra that is delight when viewed through a
telescope at low power. It is dominated by two bright stars, Delta-1 and Delta-2.
Delta-1 is a huge hot blue star while Delta-2 is a swollen red giant with a diameter
of 242 million miles. That's 1.3 times the diameter of the Earth’s orbit about the Sun.
The bright contrasting colors of these two stars set against a smattering of
tiny-dimmer, diamond-like stars makes this Open Cluster a favorite object for
visitation on warm summer evenings.
