Trumpler 3 (Collinder 36) -- Open Cluster in Cassiopeia
The Queen Feeds Her Camel
The Open Cluster, Trumpler 3 (also known as Collinder 36), was a perfect way to end the
night’s observing session. This bright knot of stars set against the thick background of the
Milky Way rests across the border in Cassiopeia (Queen of Ethiopia) from Camelopardalis
(the Camel). I cannot help but envision the Queen offering Trumpler 3 as a bite of food to her
favorite camel. No eye strain was needed to see the descending arch of stars making up this
Open Cluster. The longer my telescope was on the cluster the more and more stars started
filling the field-of-view. A fine view to end the night.
